What Is the Highest THC Strain?

Strong marijuana does not necessarily mean a pure THC strain. Indeed, cannabidiol does not provide a psychoactive effect, but the absence or a low level of CBD can make the high too aggressive, and the joy and happiness of smoking will be shadowed by too many side effects: red eyes, increased appetite, increased heart rate, and even paranoia and panic attacks.

Apart from this, there is also a terpene profile that can increase the THC effect and make an average THC level in one strain work more effectively than a high-THC strain. Unfortunately, it is difficult to measure how much exactly terpenes increase the high effect, therefore, most of the “high strains lists” are based only on the THC level.

So what actually happens after you make a few tokes of a powerful strain? THC mimics the natural neurotransmitter anandamide, which is known as the “bliss molecule.” While anandamide is produced in human glands and needs special occasions and circumstances to appear, THC does pretty much the same job whenever you consume potent marijuana.

Tetrahydrocannabinol interacts with CB1 and CB2 receptors that are spread out all over our brain and switches the mode of your endocannabinoid system the way you want it: you feel euphoric and impervious to pain. The higher the THC level in the strain, the more receptors are involved in the common work.

The potency of weed (plus some other factors, like the way of consuming, user's experience, etc.) also influence the timing of the high effect. Usually, the high effect comes within a few seconds after the first puff and lasts for about an hour or two. But in fact, TCH compounds stay in the human body much longer, and for a frequent user, it can be even up to two months after the last usage.

So, let us have a look at some of the most potent strains. As we said above, if you are looking for the most potent strain, you should not only look at the THC level but also pay attention to other factors.

Colorado Chem Hybrid―24.6%

Apart from its sugary, floral scent with a slightly mint note, Colorado Chem can surprise you with an astonishing euphoric effect. No wonder this strain got one of the winning places in the 2014 Denver Cannabis Cup: due to the high THC level, it not only a great remedy for stress and pain, it also can make you feel optimistic and elated in the most difficult period of your life, bringing you strength to rise above your problems and to be focused enough to find the solution to the difficulties.

Ghost Train Haze Sativa―25.74%

Ghost Train Haze has won Colorado Sativa Flower prize for its massive heavy flowers that make you uplifted and giddy. This is a nice remedy for all kinds of emotional disorders, body pain, and lack of hunger. Due to its intensive high effect, it may cause some difficulties with focusing; therefore, it is better not to consume it if you plan on driving somewhere later.

Y Griega Sativa―27.12%

The parents of this strain—Amnesia and Kali Mist—passed along the best qualities they had to their child: Y Griega is a powerful strain with a sugary taste, a citrus aroma, big yield, and an intensive effect of happiness. Due to its high THC level, it can also be a wonderful remedy for stress, anxiety, and panic attacks. The high of Y Griega lasts for quite a long time.

A-Dub Hybrid―27.72%

A-Dub has already got a very solid reputation, and not only due to its potent parents (Chemdawg, OG Kush, and Sour Diesel). It brings you a euphoric effect that can make you extremely creative. Maybe, it is not the best choice for consuming in the office (you can become stoned), but it is definitely worth trying in the evenings and your days off.

Satori Hybrid―28%

Satori is indeed one of the most potent strain. It even won the main prize of the High Times Magazine and was proclaimed the Strain of the Year in 2007. It delivers an amazing cerebral high with pleasant effects of happiness and relaxation. The high THC level helps you increase your creativity and ease a number of discomforting body states including muscular pain, chronic pain, and arthritis. Moreover, it is a wonderful treatment for stress and anxiety attacks.
